This was on my bucket list for a very long time. I first saw photos of the area in Beautiful BC Magazine in an article written by Dave Butler. Doug and I finally made it in years later. The drive in is long and can be complicated – you definitely need a high clearance vehicle and an ATV doesn’t hurt for the last section of road. The roads get narrower, steeper, and more and more sketchy as you progress. The last section of road caved in behind our small Mazda pick-up on the way in. We decided to just ignore the obvious and figure out our retreat after the hike!
The hike in over Tiger Pass, across the glacier and down to our camp at Dunbar Lakes.
Day 2 our hike up Mount Ethelbert with views across the valley and the way we hiked in and of the Bugaboos directly to our west. The last image is our route up Mount Ethelbert.
Our hike out the next morning included 6 hours of rebuilding the road so we could drive out. Took a lot of logs and rocks to build up enough to cross and it quickly caved in behind us again.
