This is an amazing backpacking trip to the source of our watershed in the Elk Valley. You can drive on a good gravel road to Elk Lakes Provincial Park in southern British Columbia and hike from there. You hike around the lower and upper Elk Lakes, and then start a steep ascent along side a magnificent waterfall to reach the Petain Glacier. We camped here and then hiked up to the top of the glacier the next day. Beautiful weather and great hiking companions.

Day 1 the backpack to Petain Basin.

Day 2 – Our hike to the top of Petain Glacier. Spectacular wildflowers, waterfalls, and mountain goats.
